Preheat the oven to 170°C. Grease and line a loaf pan or 8-inch round pan.
Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl and set aside.
In another bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well, then stir in vanilla.
Add the dry ingredients in parts, alternating with milk or yogurt, mixing gently until just combined.
Fold in the diced apples and chopped walnuts.
Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.
Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a rack to cool completely.
